I’ve wanted to start writing for a while. Not because the internet needs another blog, but because I keep building things, forgetting how I built them, and then rebuilding them the hard way six months years later. This site is partly for you and partly a notebook for future me.

What I’ll be writing about

Pretty much whatever’s on my bench at the moment:

  • 3D printing: prints that worked, prints that didn’t, and why
  • CNC: machines, toolpaths, and the occasional ruined piece of stock
  • Circuits and home automation: microcontrollers, sensors, and making my house a bit smarter
  • Music, instruments, and sound: building, fixing, and figuring out why the audio's sounding off today
  • Guyana: occasional ramblings about my country - the good, the bad, the ugly.

How this site got built

I’ve used static site generators before, Pelican among them, but this time I wanted an editor with WYSIWYG support and less tinkering in the background. I don’t have as much free time as I used to. Ghost seems to fit that bill. So here we are.

Of course I didn't know what I was doing and ran into some challenges along the way...low memory, running out of storage, certificate not properly configured and a few others. That's OK though. I like getting my hands dirty and solving problems. Sometimes, challenges in life exist to make us stronger, smarter, better, and build character. Configuring a server – or figuring out how to make ends meet – can feel overwhelming while we're going through it, but what if there's a lesson behind it? What if there's a beautiful story waiting at the other side?

LOL. Ok, ok, I hear you. This is the first post. No need to get this deep in my thoughts already. Let's wrap up.

Lessons so far

Getting this started was a small, yet fulfilling challenge. And now I get to write about it. Here are some takeaways I learnt:

  • Check your memory and disk space before installing anything.
  • Clean up old projects you’re not using anymore.
  • When a browser keeps complaining after you’ve fixed something, try a private window before assuming it’s still broken.

What’s next

They say writing is an aid to memory. Follow along as I work on mine. If you’re into making things, tinkering, or just starting a new hobby, I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for stopping by.
